How to enable Bass Management after Optimizer calibration

Summary

Bass Management is disabled by default.

However, except in commercial cinema environments, activating it is strongly recommended, which is why it is one of the first fine-tuning steps in the calibration workflow.

 

 

What is Bass Management

Bass Management redirects low-frequency content from each speaker channel to one or more subwoofers designed to handle those frequencies more effectively.

How it works:

  • The processor applies a crossover to each speaker signal
  • Low frequencies below the crossover point go to subwoofers
  • Mid and high frequencies continue to the main speakers
  • Each driver operates within its natural bandwidth

Benefits:

  • Greater bass extension and impact
  • Reduced distortion in main speakers
  • More headroom for dynamic content
  • Consistent low-frequency response across channels

Note: Bass Management and the LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) channel are different. Bass Management handles your speakers' bass. LFE is extra bass mixed into the soundtrack. Both work together for complete low-frequency performance.

 

 

Enable Bass Management

Access Bass Management

Active Bass Management
  1. Click OPTIMIZER at the top of the page
  2. Select Bass Management from the five options (Channels, Optimizer, Spatialization, WaveForming, Bass Management)
  3. Locate the Enable BM toggle - Just below the top bar on the left side
  4. Click the toggle to turn Bass Management on

Bass Management is now active with default settings applied.

 

 

Default settings

When enabled, Bass Management automatically applies these defaults:

Crossover frequency: 80Hz for all channels

  • Industry-standard crossover point
  • Works well for most speaker/subwoofer combinations

Crossover slope: Linkwitz-Riley 24dB/octave (4th order)

  • Smooth transition between speakers and subwoofers
  • Minimal phase issues at the crossover point

Applied to: All speaker channels

  • Ensures consistent bass management across the system

Tip: These defaults work well for most systems. You can adjust crossover frequencies and slopes for individual speakers if needed. See Bass Management Expert Mode for advanced configuration options.

Note: Bass Management settings are saved with your preset. Changes to crossover frequencies or slopes require saving the preset to preserve your adjustments.
